It was nineteen hundred twenty eight when the engineer Mulholland Said the Saint Francis dam was good to go With a whole year's of water for a thirsty growing Southland And no danger to the people down below But a little short of midnight came a thunder like a cannon With a lot of sleeping people in the way 50 million tons of water came down Francisquito canyon And a night-shift operator started calling folks to say: Can you hear me in Castaic? This is Lucy on the line Wake your family, get them up to higher ground, there's not much time You'd better run out of that canyon, leave all your things behind Now I've got some other calls to make, said Lucy on the line Now Lucy was a Hello Girl in the town of Santa Paula You'd hear her voice each time you used the phone With her fingers on her switchboard, she connected every call And sometimes she worked the evening shift alone Then one night in 1928 came word from up the valley The dam had failed and death was on the way And though Lucy was no expert, she knew water runs downhill So she sat down at her switchboard, calling people up to say: Can you hear me up in Saugus? This is Lucy on the line You know a lot of little towns are in the way, one is mine We've got a monster in our valley and we're running out of time Go get the children out of bed, said Lucy on the line Then Piru gone right off the grid, the flood was coming closer With a hundred feet of water, earth, and stone When the sheriff ordered Lucy out she simply told him, "No sir" And went back to saving people on the phone When the flood came down to Fillmore town a lot of homes went under She knew which town would be the next to fall Then through an open window Lucy heard a growing thunder But she held the line to place just one more call Can you hear me, Santa Paula? This is Lucy on the line Wake your neighbors, wake your children And the families who, thanks to Lucy, made it out in time Helped to spread the word and thanked the Lord for Lucy on the line The flood ran down along the banks of the Santa Clara river Leaving fifty miles of death from dam to sea With near five hundred people lost and some were never found Mulholland said, "Just put the blame on me." All the people of the valley wondered what became of Lucy But all the phone and power lines were down It took a long time to fix them, and then the people learned When they all picked up their phones... and heard an old familiar sound: Can you hear me in Ventura? This is Lucy on the line You know it got a little hairy there but sure, I'm doing fine I thought the water had me beat but it missed by several feet Give the neighbors my best wishes And a big hug for the Mrs... Give all the kids my kisses, this is Lucy on the line

When you're trapped underneath the dead weight of your heart In depression's sharp teeth all your joys fall apart When you can't keep in mind all the good things you do I will remember them for vou. Ill carry the blessings that I've seen you be; They aren't so heavy, and they're precious to me When you can't find your strengths, or believe they are true, I will remember them for you Depression's a liar, each loss it deploys While it trashes your triumphs and soils your joys Let me keep them safe till the sunlight breaks through I will remember them for you Sailors once knew, when the storm starts to rip; That you jettison cargo to lighten the ship. Ill salvage; you pilot; just get the ship through; I will remember them for you.

I’ve listened to you all these years And come to guess your secret fears Your song conceals a hidden lure And yet you still seem so unsure I believe in you I believe in you I believe in you And though you’ve come To fear it’s wrong I believe in your song I hear you sing across the room Weaving on your enchanted loom A harmony that’s not quite right That sends a chill throughout the night I long to join you in your song To sing with you the whole night long And then perhaps to take the chance To join our fingers in the dance To synchronize our fingertips To magic flowing from your lips I believe in you I believe in you I believe in you And though you’ve come To fear it’s wrong I believe in your song

Hello babies, welcome to Earth!
You've got about a hundred years from your birth!
To grow up, go to school, fall in love
Make your mark, climb a mountain, catch a dove But babes the most important part
The thing you've gotta know from the start
It’s in your heart not in your mind,
The more you live, the more you will find... You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind
You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind Hello babies, it’s scary I know
So many things to learn and places to go Some you will leave behind, and some you’ll take in
And time won’t wait, so you’d better begin! But babes the most important part
The thing you've gotta know from the start
It’s in your heart, not in your mind, The more you live, the more you will find... You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind
You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind But babes the most important part
The thing you've gotta know from the start
It’s in your heart, not in your mind,
The longer you live, the more you will find... You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind
You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind Hello Babies, welcome to Earth!
You've got about a hundred years from your birth!
To grow up, go to school, fall in love
Make your mark, climb a mountain, catch a dove, But babes The most important part
The thing you've gotta know from the start
It’s in your heart, not in your mind,
The more you live, the more you will find... You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind
You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind
You've gotta be kind, babies, you've gotta be kind

I am seven in the kitchen with my grandma as she cooks. She lets mw peel potatoes while she chops the celery. I am ten and my sister and I put down our comic books, While Daffy, Bugs, and Elmer discuss what season it might be. I am fourteen having my first kiss, so soft and sweet and gentle. I can still remember how they looked so happy and surprised. I am nineteen driving across the country in a Budget rental. With my best friend in the back seat and the future in my eyes. So many pictures, and so many people. Memories and connections, the laughter and the tears. Some say your life’s a movie, action romance, roll the credits. But mine is a mosaic my friends built across the years. I am twenty-two at graduation, all that I can see Is a thousand people watching while my family cheers for me. I am twenty-five in Vegas, by your smile I am bewitched. Getting married in a drive-thru as Elvis say “Congrats, you’re hitched”. So many pictures, and so many people. Memories and connections, the hopes and dreams and fears. Some say your life’s a novel, lots of chapters, annotations. But mine is a mosaic my loved ones built across the years. I am thirty and my first child is sleeping in my arms. How can someone so important be so small I am forty and we're moving to a new town on the coast. Unaware we'll never want to leave at all. I am fifty and my body's getting crotchety and cranky. But my doctor and her team keep me in tune. I am sixty and my little girl gets married to a good man. As we watch beneath an orange autumn moon. So many pictures and so many people. Every time you look around another one appears. Some say your life's a painting, Or a poem, or a sculpture,. But mine is a mosaic my loved ones built across the years. So many pictures and so many people. Every time you look around another one appears. Evervone's a work of art and we are all connected. And I am a mosaic my loved ones built across the years. I am a mosaic my loved ones built across the years.

If you get all tied up in knots The world is takin more than you got If your mind is filled with stress and doubt Don't know how you're gonna find a way out Just breathe Breathe Though you might be afraid to fail You can't fix nothin if you don't inhale Just breathe Arguments with boss or spouse Kids and dog tracked mud in the house Can't find your keys when it's time to roll That Murphy guy's a real posterior Just breathe Breathe You'll see that there's no substitution Respiration precedes the solution Breathe Here's the audience participation part: In <inhale> Out <exhale> In <inhale> Out <exhale> Yeah, you'll do fine The world's annoying, that's just so Sometimes it'll kick you, but just so you know Everyone else has struggles too So share the solution, show em what to do Just breathe Breathe Blow that air out, suck it in Repeat as needed, and we all win Just breathe In <inhale> Out <exhale> In <inhale> Out <sigh>

On a dirty street corner beneath a steel gray sky, Old Enid plays his blues as the crowds just rush on by. Just a crazy old man – dented sax and tangled hair. Wailing out his benedictions. Crumbling old brick building, Mary drinks her tea. A well-worn Bible and a blanket on her knees. She hears the gunfire from the alley down below. While sirens sing of Armageddon. Manhattan sleeps tonight Under a blanket of new fallen snow. Quiet as the light from towers pierce the fog Softly glows. I can feel the ghosts haunting the streets far below - Waiting. A full moon rises pulling people like the tide. As the snow keeps falling on an ocean deep and wide. Each fragile crystal melts into the sea, In a moment of transition. A frozen blanket, bathed in silver light. The streets lie muted in the alchemy of night. But when the spring comes, who knows what will have grown, In the cracks between the stones. Old Enid dreams, in the warmth of vented steam Of better days to come. Mary’s fears seem to ring in her ears, As she stares out the window at a million frozen falling stars. Manhattan sleeps tonight Under a blanket of new fallen snow. Quiet as the light from towers pierce the fog Softly glows. I can feel the ghosts haunting the streets far below - Waiting.

Let's fill up the tank and pile in the van When the moon is high in the sky. With a big chunk of cavorite under the hood, You'll believe that a van can fly. We're all buckled in so we know we'll be safe As the big red van starts to rise, 'Cause there's nothing quite like spending your Saturday night On a family drive through the skies. We're goin' to the moon in my red minivan. I've packed some milk and cookies and some strawberry jam. With Baby and Mommy and Winnie the Pooh, So come along and join us 'cause there's just room for you. We're goin' to the moon in my red minivan. I know we're gonna make it - Katie told me we can! Roll the windows up, 'cause we're gettin' so high And it's better when the air is inside. And Daddy's got the pedal pressed down to the floor, So it’s gonna be a heckuva ride. We'll cruise for a minute in zero-G, Plucking M & Ms from the air. And the man in the moon is smilin' tonight, 'Cause in just a half an hour we'll be there. And the lights in the sky are brighter Than they were before we started to fly. And we count the stars through the windows As we watch the constellations roll by. It's a beautiful night to go cruising With the family all aboard for a trip. And if Katie says it's true then I've gotta believe That a minivan is gonna be a rocket ship. We're gonna kick up the dust at Tranquility Base As our red lunar rover rolls by. And there's a big blue marble hanging high overhead That's the prettiest thing in the sky. We'll blow a big bubble and fill it with air So we can wander round safe in our dome And we'll build sand castles by the light of the Earth Till it's time to pack up and go home I know we're gonna make it - Katie told me we can! I know we're gonna make it - Katie told me we can!

When the long days of summer turn corner to fall And the crops in the field have turned ripe and stand tall Then the people will gather to meet and greet here Celebrating at the great Keswick Fair. There'll be food fun and laughter and something for all As the children keep playing until parents call Then a huge suppers waiting with cooks feeling proud Celebrating at the great Keswick Fair. Come on home, come on down, join the crowd, be as one You're as welcome as good luck or warm summer sun We are family – related by the ties we all share Come on home to the great Keswick Fair. You'll meet Jewetts and Gilmores and Brewers and more Who formed the new townships and fought in the wars Plus the new generations of those who've moved here Celebrating at the great Keswick Fair. Come on home, come on down, join the crowd, be as one You're as welcome as good luck or warm summer sun We are family – related by the ties we all share Come on home to the great Keswick Fair. And as day fades to evening and stars come to play There'll be fiddles and voices in joy of the day And as feet start a tappin' and songs fill the air All will revel at the great Keswick Fair. Come on home, come on down, join the crowd, be as one You're as welcome as good luck or warm summer sun We are family – related by the ties we all share Come on home to the great Keswick Fair, oh yes! Come on home to the great Keswick Fair.

I smiled at a sunflower, but it turned up its face I reached for the roses, but they only made me bleed The forget-me-nots said, "Remember your place, If you ever belonged, you belong in the weeds." But you took me in, my dandelion friend There by your side I would find There is shelter in the wind Storm after storm, when the whole world is reborn I will be with you again. The sky is our highway, we go as we please Carry our stories in the satchel of a seed I know when I hear it, aloft on the breeze The song in your heart is the music I need You took me in, my dandelion friend Now we are many And ever unbroken, we will bend Row upon row, how the dandelions grow And we will rise up again. You took me in, my dandelion friend There by your side I would find There is shelter in the wind Year after year, I return to find you here I will find you again My dandelion friend.

Drinks her whiskey from a spoon On the tractor to and fro
Plowing where the corn will grow Sister June hums a tune
Drinks her whiskey from a spoon Grandpa Bill, up on the hill Where he sits and tends the still With his cane he won't go far Without his trusty mason jar Grandpa Bill, up on the hill Where he sits and tends the still The work's all done, the fire's lit Supper's on the table, let's get to it Park the plow, put the shovel away It's time to sit at the end of the day Ring the bell, come on in Don't matter if you're friend or kin It's su-u-u-upper time

As you are walking down the street? Brother Joe, where did you go?
Why are you walking to and fro?
You said you would have one more drink You had more than that I think
Brother Joe, where did you go?
Why are you walking to and fro? The work's all done, the fire's lit Supper's on the table, let's get to it Park the plow, put the shovel away It's time to sit at the end of the day Ring the bell, come on in Don't matter if you're friend or kin Shut the gate, close the door The dog's are curled up on the floor It's su-u-u-upper time It's su-u-u-upper time It's su-u-u-upper time It's su-u-u-upper time

1 can't recall the first time that I really understood, How my grandmother's kitchen was the home of so much good. She handed out the cookies and stories of the past. The olden days were magic spells that only she could cast. In Grandma's kitchen, her simple food was great. In Grandma's kitchen, we always cleaned our plate Her hugs were warm and lavender, my goodness how we clung. And in Grandma's kitchen, even when you're bitchin', In Grandma's kitchen, you kept a civil tongue. When I grew up and had my twins, my husband's mom and dad Would give the kids adventures, and all the love they had. They took my children camping, in the mountains and the trees. But simple meals in Grandma's kitchen filled their memories. In Grandma's kitchen, her simple food was great. In Grandma's kitchen, we always cleaned our plate. Her hugs were warm and lavender, my goodness how we clung. And in Grandma's kitchen, even when you're bitchin' In Grandma's kitchen, you kept a civil tongue. And now I'm an old lady, and I try to do my best, To give the young ones simple foods, and stories for the rest listen to their problems, and wipe away their tears. I plan to be a good example for their future grandma years. In Grandma's kitchen, her simple food was great. In Grandma's kitchen, we always cleaned our plate. Her hugs were warm and lavender, my goodness how we clung. -And in Grandma's kitchen, even when you're bitchin', In Grandma's kitchen, you kept a civil tongue Now sometimes Grandma's kitchen was a place of fear and pain But there's no earthly reason that condition should remain. We all can do much better, and I swear by stars above, That we can make every future grandma's kitchen a place of joy and love.

So close the gate upon the yard - The empty lambing pen And send the sheep upon their way To pasture once again. The land remains, the land endures, The land remembers all And likewise all the bonny sheep Still heed the shepherd's call Now Autumn-stretched, the shadows lie Along the old drove road And Winter treads a step behind To claim what he is owed The sweat and ache of labour done: The land remembers all And likewise all the bonny sheep Still heed the shepherd's call And still and still the kestrel's flight Shall bless the clear bright sky; And still the knowing each dear beast All, holds the shepherd's eye So close the gate upon the yard - The empty lambing pen And send the sheep upon their way To pasture once again. The land remains, the land endures Wherein we spend our days And when we leave what we have loved Then something sacred stays

I got lost on my way to Lake Wobegon. I got lost somewhere north of St. Paul. When I started to stray I tried to ask the way But I don't speak Minnesotan at all. I wanted to go To that town in the snow Where true love never dies. Where your neighbor's a friend who will never reject you Even if you're kind of shy. It isn't on the map; True places never are. I haven't found it yet, but it's not far. I'm sure I belong in Lake Wobegon. I'm sure it's as real as can be. Where the nights are so long, The women are strong, And the men are all good-looking, like me. I wanted to roam, But I had to go home Where the neighbors are rude as can be. And the sweet young lady in the corner apartment Won't even stop to talk to me. It isn't on the map; True places never are. I haven't found it yet, but it's not far. I was lonely back home in Sheboygan. So lonely, but what could I do? I'm handsome, but shy, And I thought I might die Without a Powdermilk Biscuit or two. But I smile and I greet All the people I meet And I think I've broken the ice. 'Cause the sweet young lady in the corner apartment Has noticed that I'm really nice. I invited her over for a jello salad, And we talked the whole night through. So if you can't make your way to Lake Wobegon, Bring Lake Wobegon to you.

I am always surprised that not everybody knows The feeling of dread and fear that only grows and grows Until it covers everything, swallows every hope And I just wish someone could help me cope When the brightness hurts my eyes, will you hold my light? Will you keep it safe, burning through the night? So my darkness does not dim it, does not steal the glow So I can rest and sleep and be sure to know That when the shadows lift and I can once more see You are there and can return my light to me I know that when it hits me, I always turn away That I grow cold and distant and keep people at bay When you cannot read my tone, my stance or my face It means I have already lost the race When the brightness hurts my eyes, will you hold my light? Will you keep it safe, burning through the night? So my darkness does not dim it, does not steal the glow So I can rest and sleep and be sure to know That when the shadows lift and I can once more see You are there and can return my light to me When I push you away, is when I need your aid When I say „oh its nothing“ it means that I‘m afraid GCdG When I end each sentence laughing, when I smile too bright It means I really need you by my side When the brightness hurts my eyes, will you hold my light? Will you keep it safe, burning through the night?
So my darkness does not dim it, does not steal the glow
So I can rest and sleep and be sure to know That when the shadows lift and I can once more see You are there and can return my light to me

Just a run down church in a run down part of town, Can't recall a word the preacher said, But after every service, we would have this grand Pot Luck, All of us together - breaking bread. Hilda made some German dish I never could pronounce, and Lawrence made a killer Irish stew. Maria made tamales that were worth your very soul, Old Bob was "King of barbecue". The coffee pot was three foot tall of shining silver steel, Five gallon percolator, don't you know, It probably took an hour, just to brew a single pot But I never had a finer cup of Joe. Just a run down church in a run down part of town, Can't recall a word the preacher said, But after every service, we would have this grand Pot Luck, All of us together - breaking bread. I recall the weddings, with potluck afterward Not catered in some fancy upscale joint Someone made pirogies, and someone else baked pie, To Celebrate together was the point. This nation's never been a melting pot. It's always been a smorgasbord buffet. So pull up to the table; show us what you've got. It doesn't even have to be Sunday. So bring your carnitas, bring those taco trucks, And a million types of dumpling to fry And if you bring tandoori, save me a bit of naan, Don't forget to leave room for pie. A run down church in a run down part of town, Honestly been years since I've returned, But it wasn't at the service, it was at that grand Pot Luck, Where I swear the real lesson was learned. At that run down church in a run down part of town, Can't recall a thing that preacher said, But after every service, we would have this grand Pot Luck, All of us together - breaking bread. Everyone together - breaking bread.

And things have changed And they remain the same and are they right when they say you can never go back home again Home again, home again, home again, home again When these familiar streets were larger Long before I grew They encompassed everything I was everything I knew and I see that things are changing or is it me that's changed? me that changed? And things have changed And they remain the same and are they right when they say you can never go back home again Home again, home again, home again, home again I went to seek my fortune to a raucous battle call And I thought that I would never Come back home at all I return to home a stranger with a familiar face familiar face And things have changed And they remain the same and are they right when they say you can never go back home again Home again, home again, home again, home again My home is unfamiliar and its just the way I knew and when I turn the corner the face I'll see is you Is a home of brick and mortar or built inside our hearts you are my heart And things have changed And they remain the same and are they right when they say you can never go back home again Home again, home again, home again, home again

Sometimes we disagree But we find our way - musically; My heart feels brighter than the sun That will soon return when the year's begun. Fa la la la Fa la la la laaa They'll ask us for our year's resolve My good intentions all involve The music that we're gonna play If this silly dreamer has her silly way. Fa la la la Fa la la la laaa And for now we may Draw in sunlight Drink some peppermint tea Draw in patience and courage Because loving you matters to me. And we love music, So music matters to me, you see I wish I could make clear to all It's okay to talk without a brawl That cranky offhand thing we wrote Might be better said with measured quarter notes Fa la la la Fa la la la laaa And for now we may Draw in sunlight Drink some peppermint tea Draw in patience and courage Because loving you matters to me. And we love music, So music matters to me, you see, While playing music or listening Happy or with tears glistening Please, know I hold you in my heart As we wait today for our brand new year to start. Fa la la la Fa la la la laaa And for now we may Draw in sunlight Drink some peppermint tea Draw in patience and courage Because loving you matters to me. And we love music, So music matters to me, you see. Music matters Music matters And you, love, you matter to me

I wonder how my world can live with all the hate she harbors (Sleep, my weary world.) And I'm scared of how long it may last, And just how soon it all could end, And I wish the power to stop it all Could rest within my hands. I see her people dying for such bold and bloody causes (Sleep, my weary world.) And the bodies of the innocent Are washed up on the lengthening shore While the rising tide of history Just ebbs and flows again. Chorus: Oh, make me a cradle to rock my weary world, Make me a gentle voice to soothe her when she weeps, Make my arms strong enough to hold her when she wakes, And make me a lullaby so sweet and fine That I can sing my weary world to sleep. I wish that I could smooth away her jagged scars of hatred (Sleep, my weary world.) And though my hands may bleed and burn, I'll hold my broken world to me Until her ugly scars have healed And peace may reign again. (Chorus) And if her fighting will not stop, then I'll hold her that much closer And sing my lullaby above the noise and pain of war. And if her bleeding I can't staunch, I'll bleed along beside her, But I will not let her go, no, I'll never let her go. And when the stars have all burned out, I'll sing to her in darkness (Sleep, my weary world.) And pray a tender God may find me Huddled in the dark and cold, And grant the precious world I shelter One more chance to live. May God grant my precious world Another chance to love. (Chorus)

Miss so many faces Miss their voices, and their laugh
Safer far away But it’s hard to make it last Hold each other in hearts Til we get better For though we are apart, we are together For though we are apart, we are together Finding joy in little things Plant a garden, learn to bake Making due and mending through Isn’t all a piece of cake All around the world This storm we’ll weather For though we are apart, we are together For though we are apart, we are together Together we are hopeful Together we are strong Together we will make it through Even when things go wrong Together we will find the path That takes us from the dark We are in this all as one Even if we are apart Hours online, marking FaceTime Days and weeks roll away We keep each other safe But it gets harder every day Hold each other in our hearts Til we get better For though we are apart, we are together For though we are apart, we are together Together we are hopeful Together we are strong Together we will make it through Even when things go wrong Together we will find the path That takes us from the dark We are in this all as one Even if we are apart The world that was is gone But a new one will arise With every mask, with every task Hand in hand, in love and pride All our sacrifice, I swear Is not forever For though we are apart, we are together For though we are apart, we are together For though we are apart, we are together For though we are apart, we are together
